About the book:
The Teachings of Meher Baba
Meher Baba (1894-1969) was one of the most disturbing and profound mystics of the 20th century. His ideas regarding reality, the divine, creation, or the situation of humankind constitute some of the most lucid and penetrating insights of our times. “There is only one question” says Meher Baba, “Who am I?” There is only one answer, “I am God”. The notion of God as the true Self of every one of us, is the foundation of all mysticism, a proposition which, in this case, is clearly rooted in Vedantic philosophy and Sufi mysticism. But in the example he furnished with his own life, Meher Baba ended up// transcending any philosophical label, and any reductionist affiliation.
His biography is shrouded in mysteries, retreats, journeys, miracles, and even a vow of silence lasting 40 years. However, as he himself points out, such external things distract us from what is truly essential: the quest for reality and perfection of the self. And the way preached by Meher Baba is that of knowledge, love and compassion. This is the path of realising the immanent divinity in human flesh, the “Ancient One” in Meher Baba's terms. For his thousands of disciples – from illustrious western celebrities to anonymous Indian peasants - Meher Baba was much more than a guru; he was the manifestation of the divine, the latest avatar of our times.
