The New Couple
Original title:
La nueva pareja.
About the book:
The New Couple
The crisis of couples in a relationship is a question of growth. This is the central message of this book, which draws on the methods, duly reinterpreted, of Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis.
The problems of “the new couple" arise out of their social impact. A society consisting of free individuals, living freely in relationships, becomes incompatible with many of the values, norms and forms of social control currently in operation. Couple relationships based on complementarity of rigidly predetermined sexual roles are not in keeping with the demands for autonomy within society. The situation is paradoxical: autonomy and responsibility are expected of the individual, at the same time we see an institution maintained which is anchored in schematas that impede individual development.
This book analyses the crises and paradoxes of couple relationships, setting out to define a new model for the future.
