Cosmopolitan Identity
Original title:
La identidad cosmopolita. Los límites del patriotismo en la era global
About the book:
Cosmopolitan Identity
Once upon a time, being cosmopolitan was a vocation or a privilege. These days it is a condition common to many people around the world, and increasingly a necessity to be able to co-exist with the diversity of cultures within one's borders and beyond. This is Bilbeny's thesis and interest in this book, which will appeal to all those with an interest in philosophy, politics and anthropology.
Formerly, too, being cosmopolitan represented a universalist alternative to the patriotic or domestic identity, which was rejected as “particularist”. Today, on the other hand, one of the main justifications for cosmopolitanism is that it is from this perspective alone that different ethnicities and politics can be respected, and any action on an international scale, such as safeguarding the environment, will need such an open and cooperative mentality.
