Original title:
La filosofía yoga. Un Camino Místico Universal
About the book:
Yoga Philosophy
A universal mystic way
Yoga Philosophy constitutes a concise and didactic exposition on yoga as described by the brilliant Patanjali more than two thousand years ago. It provides a study of the various stages - such as the ethical dispositions, the breathing or concentration techniques – that lead to the ultimate goal of the yogic path: the isolating of the spirit within itself. Being completely didactic in approach, the complete text of the First Book of the Yogasutras by Patanjali has been bound in at the back of the book, together with notes and a translation into Spanish //.
Parallel to this account of Yoga, the authors present an outstanding analysis of the Christian teachings – forming what could be described as Christian Yoga – as expounded by Christian mystics and theologians. The result of the confronting of Yoga and Christian Mysticism points up the striking similarities between the two. The bringing together of the two leads to a greater, more profound comprehension of both systems. In the final analysis, Tola and Dragonetti show how both traditions can be seen as similar attempts to overcome the limits of the human condition and come closer to or arrive at a supreme, transcendental reality.
At the same time Yoga Philosophy provides one more instance of the thematic and methodological similarities which the authors have been bringing to our attention in recent years between Indian and Western philosophy and contributes in this respect to the elimination of ethnocentric prejudices in relation to Indian thought.
