The Peacock's tail

For centuries, in different cultures, fables have been told by the light of the fire to reflect about themselves – the human world – by appealing to the virtues, defects or characters of the animal world. It is a way of winning them over, comparing our own gifts with those of the lion, the dragonfly or the wolf. And fables are not concerned with showing how other beings behave, but rather with showing how their conduct affects us and in what mirror of secret identities it is possible to expand our vision. Today, when for example etology, limnology (the study of fresh water) ornithology and ethnobotany are providing surprising information on the animal world, and whole species are disappearing day by day, while nature is assailed with impunity, it is poetry that can retrieve or salvage, by means of fantasy, what has deteriorated through a surfeit of reality.

For that reason, the book extends the real facts about the natural world that  we have towards the ever fertile field of the imagination in order to bring the dimension of fable up-to-date. Larding, as befits this genre, the language of human beings with that of the animals or the flowers, so that both sides rediscover,  through dialogue, the value of the sacred and the pleasure of a shared life.

About the author:

Mario Satz has a degree in philology from the Universitat de Barcelona, a scholar of the Cabala, poet, novelist and translator. He has written numerous books, including Senderos en el jardín del corazón (Paths in the garden of the heart) and Arca de roca (Rocky Ark) published by Kairos.
