Chimo Fernández de Castro
Taking the Myths Out of Christianity
Original title:
El cristianismo desmitificado. La sexualidad en tiempos de Jesucristo
About the book:
Taking the Myths out of Christianity
A study of sexuality in the time of Jesus Christ
Here is a stunning, challenging, and healthily irreverent book, and a very entertaining one at that. El cristianismo desmitificado is an exploration of Biblical myths of the Creation, Paradise, Eva's apple, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Mary's virginity or the love of Mary Magdalene.
Adopting a deliberately light-hearted matched by punctilious academic rigour, the author examines the prodigious happenings and miracles that make up the Old and New Testaments, and sets forth the sexual norms, duties, obligations and customs of the men and women who figure in the holy scriptures. The conclusions drawn are both riveting and novel, and although the treatment is consistently respectful, some will find these conclusions offensive.
Fernandez de Castro also analyses the bellicose nationalist movements in which every male Jew was expected to fight for his people or be considered pro-Roman and against the God of Moses.
And much to the consternation of all those who have worshipped the cross (the author included) we learn that no one who was not a terrorist or a slave could be crucified.
