A readable, rigorous and very complete study on the emotions and their application in different fields. After the international success of Daniel Goodman's Emotional Intelligence, books on the subject have multiplied. However, these have tended to be full of theory and short on practical application.  Intelligent Hearts, written by tip-top university teachers, sets out to fill this important gap, applying the concept to different aspects of everyday life.

The aim of the authors is to produce a book that provides in-depth analysis, without losing sight of the different theoretical orientations, both the concept itself and the practical advantages of emotional intelligence in relation. Of the seven component sections of the book, the first is devoted to defining emotional intelligence in relation to personal adaptation and maturation, at both conscious and unconscious levels, approached from disciplines as disparate and varied as psychobiology, cognitive psychology and sociology. The seven remaining sections look in depth at different fields of application, such as health, education, communication, interpersonal relationships and the business world. Lastly, the authors add a series of chapters aimed at all those people who wish to modify the way that they habitually manage their emotions.

Intelligent Hearts is co-edited by Pablo Fernandez Berrocal and Natalia Ramos Diaz, doctors in pyschology and lecturers at the Universidad de Malaga. At the present time they are developing programmes for the enhancement of emotional intelligence in different settings and organisations.
