Is the awakening of consciousness of the unity a step in human development? Ought psychology include the unitary dimension of man as a part of its discipline?  If this proved to be so, would we be talking of a fifth force within psychology.

How to unify concepts and theories in the profound subjectivity of human experiences?  How to view the transcendence and highest values of the Self in an historic moment when the world is shaken by wars, violence, alienation and injustice?  How can we talk of freedom when human beings live enslaved by their own selves. What to do, given the constant struggle between paradigms that proclaim “their truth” to humanity as the only dichotomisation.

About the author:

Ana María González Garza has a doctorate in Human Development from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. She pioneered the introduction of the transpersonal approach into the Spanish-speaking world. She is the author of, amongst other things, Los caminos de transcendencia (The paths of transcendance) and De la sombra a la luz (From the shadows to the light).
